They accelerate mutual learning and empower national policymakers with good practices. Focusing on the priority areas identified jointly by the Council and the Commission in the ET 2020 strategic framework, the six Working Groups bring together more than 400 members. These include experts from the Member States, candidate and EFTA countries, European social partners, civil society, EU agencies and international organisations.
The six new ET 2020 Working Groups consist of:
- Working Group on schools
- Working Group on the modernisation of higher education
- Working Group on vocational education and training
- Working Group on adult learning
- Working Group on digital skills and competences
- Working Group on Promoting citizenship and the common values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination through education (follow-up to the Paris Declaration)
The kick-off in Brussels was the first time a common meeting was organised for all Working Groups. The opening session was followed by an interactive panel discussion with representatives from Member States and the Commission. The panel shared experiences from previous Working Groups and answered questions about the status of the Working Groups, their working methods and their role in EU policy-making.
Following the joint plenary, each Working Group discussed how to best organise itself to achieve the outputs identified in its mandate, also identifying topics for webinars and peer-learning activities until June 2018.
